Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has claimed Manchester United should sign a striker to help with the development of Rasmus Hojlund.
Despite possessing Rasmus Hojlund, Romano claimed in an interview with Caught Offside that Man United are in dire need of a new number nine. He feels that the “developing” Dane needs the assistance of a fresh striker.
Prior to his injury, the 21-year-old was the team’s most productive scorer and has already made significant progress this season. Because of the amount of playing time he has had, he may have developed a muscle injury.
Due to United’s lack of backup options, Hojlund has been forced to participate in nearly every match.
“Man United are also planning to sign a new striker in the summer transfer window – the plan is very clear, they are waiting for a new director and a new board structure, but they want a new number 9,” Romano told Caught Offside.
“They will obviously respect the great numbers of Rasmus Hojlund and he will remain at the club, but one more striker is needed because Anthony Martial will leave Old Trafford as a free agent, there are no doubts about that.
“United still have to decide, however, if they want to go for a young player or an experienced player. There will be internal discussions about that, and United will take their time despite rumours about Joshua Zirkzee and Mathys Tel. We’ll see what they decide in the coming weeks and months, but for sure a new striker will be a core part of their plans for the summer.”
Hojlund can certainly figure things out on his own, as seen by his comeback in the second part of the season. The 21-year-old does, however, require assistance in relieving some of his burdens.
Rasmus will not be expected to play 90 minutes in every game due to the addition of a new striker. This is going to be critical for his recuperation, and watching another striker play for United will give the Dane additional ideas about how to be a dangerous attacker.
Romano added: “Personally, I think Hojlund still has huge potential and I’ve been so impressed with his performances recently, so maybe an experienced striker who knows the league could help to make an instant impact and also to support Hojlund while he’s still developing.”
To relieve Hojlund of some of the strain for the next year or two and provide him with someone to learn from, an experienced signing up front may be perfect for United.
